Mrs. Bessie Carter Mottern, 86, formerly of 210 E. Holston Ave., died Friday in Anderson Health Care Center after a lengthy illness.

She was a native of Greene County and a daughter of the late R. C. and Alice Walters Carter.

Mrs. Mottern was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Ethel Aken Bible Class.

She was also a member of the Johnson City Chapter of the Eastern Star, the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 24, and a very active member of the Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Mottern was preceded in death by her husband, Horace E. Mottern.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Mary Furches, Rt. 14, Gray, one grandson, Charles Furches, Gray; one grand daughter, Barbara Furches, Middleland, Mich.; and two great-granddaughters.
