James was born February 29, 1944, in Wyoming County, a son of the late Willie and Nancy Lester Bishop.
James was a former employee of Robinson and Phillips Coal Company from which he retired and was a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar racing, and riding four wheelers.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step mother, Thelma Bishop, one brother, Tommy Morgan, and a sister Frances Bishop.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth Cline Bishop of the home and two loving daughters, Tina Holcomb and husband Timmy of Hanover and Brittany Bishop of Iaeger; two granddaughters, who were one of his greatest pleasures, Bethany and Hannah Holcomb of Hanover; two brothers, Arlie Bishop and wife Donna of Proctorville, Ohio and Keith Bishop and wife Michelle of Welch, W.Va.; one sister Darlene Toler and husband Roger of Ikes Fork, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted noon Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home, Iaeger, with the Rev. Butch White, Rev. Leroy Lester, and Rev. Elzie Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny, W.Va.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday evening, August 26, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where evening services will be conducted at 7 p.m.
