Mr. Burns died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Eudora Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Lawrence, the son of Thomas L. Sr. and Angelena (Barnes) Burns. He attended Lawrence public schools.
Mr. Burns worked as the yard foreman for Lawrence Paper Co. for 27 years. He also had farmed and worked at Bowersock Power Co. He was a member of Indian Hills Church of God. He wrote a book, "60 Years on the Kaw River," in 1993.
He married Ozella E. Pearson on Sept. 28, 1939, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Thomas E., McLouth; three daughters, Carol Sue Taul and Jeannette Marie Hadley, both of Baldwin, and Patricia Ann Breithaupt, Lawrence; a sister, Annamarguerite Simmons, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
