George L. Nicholson

Gloucester - George "Lew" Lewellyn Nicholson, a veteran of the US Navy and World War II, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Sanders Nursing Home.

(Lew) was born at Shipyard Farm, Selden, on Jan. 13, 1913. He was a graduate of the Botetourt High School Class of 1930. He was associated with the American Tobacco Co. in Richmond before retiring to Gloucester.

He was a lifetime member of Abingdon Episcopal Church; Botetourt Masonic Lodge 7, AF & AM; and Gloucester American Legion Post 75. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Picadet(sic) Nicholson; parents, James Roy and Frances Throckmorton Nicholson; and brother, Joseph James Nicholson.

His survivors include a brother, George Dudley Nicholson of Hayes.

A graveside service with Masonic rites will be held at 11 a.m. today in Abingdon Episcopal Church cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Theodore Haddix Jr.

Arrangements are by Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
