Many were saddened yesterday when news came that Mary A.Broadfoot, wife of Charles H.Broadfoot, had died at the Fox hospital in Oneonta, where she had been under treatment for the past two weeks,at about 1:30 o'clock.
Deceased was born January 15th,1859,in the town of Butternuts. Some time before her marriage to Mr.Broadfoot,November 23,1887 she was assistant postmistress during the administration of the late Thaddeus A.Birdsall and continued her labors as such for a time thereafter, and was employed in the same capacity during a portion of the late Andrew D.Annable's administration as postmaster, filling the position with ability and credit. She won many friends and acquaintances during her duties in the post office and was most cordial, obliging and accomodating. In early life she united with the Methodist church and was a most ardent worker in the activities of that organization, for years being a leader in the choir and teacher in the Sabbath school, the Mary A.Broadfoot Bible Class being organized and still carried on in her honor, she being the teacher until failing health compelled her to relinquish the labor. Devoted to the Master's cause, she was ever ready to respond to any duty that demanded her aid. In the church circles, where her Christian influence was felt and will long linger with those associated with her,she will be sadly missed,as she will be in the community and home, where especially she proved to be a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a woman of noble Christian character, loved and esteemed by a host fo admiring friends.
Surviving she leaves a husband and only Daughter,Mrs. Belle B. Little, two sisters,Mrs.Andrew D. Annabelle of Otego, and Miss Emma porter of Gilbertsville, one brother.Thomas Porter of Mt.Upton, and two grandchildren,Doris and Alan Little, who have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement and hour of affliction.
A private funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the home,Rev.W.H.Alger,pastor of the m.E.Church,officiating with burial in Evergreen cemetery. The remains may be viewed by friends from 10 to 11 o'clock Thursday morning at the home.
