Large Funeral
Mrs. Winslow Buried at Luthersburg Friday Afternoon
Friday afternoon a large throng of neighbors and relatives assembled at the home of H. F. Winslow and family, on DuBois avenue, previous to the removal of Mrs. Winslow's body to the home of her childhood at Luthersburg, where the funeral services were to be held. There was a wonderful number of floral gifts arranged about the room occupied by the casket, telling the story of unmeasured neighborly love and sympathy.
About 2 o'clock a procession of carriages followed the hearse to Luthersburg. The funeral party found that relatives and friends of that place had already assembled at the Lutheran church in large numbers. Here the services were held, Rev. J. V. Bell delivering a short address, followed by one by Rev. W. Selner, pastor of the church where the people had assembled, and members of the DuBois Presbyterian choir did the singing. The whole service was surely impressive. As the congregation was dismissed the body was laid to rest only a few yards from the church, in the burying ground where others of the Goodlander family were taken before.
Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Winslow, of Straight, Pa., Lafayette Winslow, of Benezette, and a number of others of the Winslow family from a distance as well as many of the Goodlanders gathered from their distant homes, were in attendance at the funeral; and a great many of the old greyheaded people of the village and township looked with dim eyes once more upon the form which had in the frolicsome days of childhood been as a ray of sunlight crossing their paths. They knew, as their tears bore testimony, that the world was better for the influences that came from the life, shortened as it was, of Laura J. Winslow.
