"John Grove, one of the best known men in the county, died at his home on the Raccoon road in Austintown township last Friday morning at 9 o'clock. He was probably the oldest man in the county, being near his 97th birthday. He was born on the farm where he died Jan. 4, 1813. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Grove, early settlers of Austintown township. Mr. Grove for years farmed extensively and engaged largely in the stock business. On his farm were always the finest horses and cattle. He was a most genial gentleman and possessed a wide circle of friends. He was a democrat of the old school and in his younger days took a lively interest in political matters. On Jan. 11, 1838, he was married to Miss Mary McCullough, who died 11 years ago. The following children survive; Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, O. R. Grove, Mrs. Florence Kyle of this county, and C. C. Grove of Los Angeles, Cal. Funeral services were held from the family residence last Sunday at 12:30 o'clock. Interment was made in the Cornersburg cemetery."
