Mr. Cortez, 79, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Casa Maria Nursing Center in Roswell, New Mexico.
Mr. Cortez was born January 26, 1930 in Presidio, Texas; the son of Gregorio Cortez and Yldefosa (Ornelas) Cortez.
He came to Artesia area in 2003 from Lovington.
He was a farm laborer and was of the catholic denomination.
Gregorio was preceded in death by his parents, a son, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Survivors include his 8 daughters; 2 sons; brothers Aldolfo Cortez, and Jose Cortez both of Lubbock, Texas; sister Juana Salcido of Lake Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews.
