Elsie Annie Byrd, 81, of 230 Terrace Garden Apartments, Collinsville, and formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born June 25, 1928, in Franklin County to Vincent Oliver Byrd & Minnie Robertson Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary B. Adams, and nine brothers, Alfie Byrd, Ed Byrd, Bennie Byrd, Junie Byrd, David Byrd, Odie Byrd, Bill Byrd, Jack Byrd and Ervin Byrd. She had worked as a beautician at Herominus of Roanoke and worked for Elizabeth Arden and Ely Lilly. She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are a sister, Essie Kidd of Martinsville; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Norris Funeral Services. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service Saturday and other times at the home of her niece, Sheila Adams, 118 Inman St., Martinsville.
