Rose E. Bachand, a Prineville resident passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Marquis Care Center in Oregon City, Ore. She was 91 years old.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday August 20, 2004 at 7 p.m. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at Prineville Funeral Home Heritage Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church under the direction of the Prineville Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mrs. Bachand was born on February 12, 1913 in Council, Idaho, the daughter of William and Louisa (Uselding) Freehafer. She was raised and educated in Council, Idaho, and was a 1929 graduate of Council High School. She attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, and received her bachelor's in sociology in 1938.

On January 28, 1939 in Moscow, Idaho she was married to Emile Bachand. She taught high school in Grangeville, Idaho, and also worked as a social worker in Yakima, Wash. They moved to Prineville in 1956 from California. In the early 60's she worked as a reporter for the Central Oregonian Newspaper in Prineville and then worked as a teacher's aide at Crook County High School from 1965 through 1969. She worked as an assistant librarian for Crook County Library for 10 years. She then worked for her husband at Emile Bachand Civil Engineering, she retired in 1987 and moved to Oregon City in 1999.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Prineville and for many years was a member of the Alter Society. She loved the outdoors and was known as a crack-shot.

Mrs. Bachand is survived by her sons W. Julian Bachand of Sacramento, California and Bernard L. and his wife Donita Bachand of Silverton, Oregon, a daughter Susan C. and her husband Charles McDermott of Prineville, and son Michael E. Bachand of Folsom, Calif., and nine grandchildren. Mrs. Bachand was preceded in death by her husband Emile in 1988 and parents and one brother William.

Arrangements are under the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
