Claud Binam, a Prineville resident, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003 at his home. He was 87 years old.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Prineville Community Church. Pastor Scott Davis and Pastor Willard Fenderson officiated. Interment followed at the Juniper Haven Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 27, at the Prineville Funeral Home.

Mr. Binam was born on Sept. 29, 1916 in Osage, Ark., the son of Walter and Grace (Swain) Binam. He married Sylvia McElhaney on June 4, 1934, preceding him in death. In 1937 he moved to Camp Watson out of Mitchell, where he fell timber for Hudspeth Mill. He later returned to Arkansas and then in the early 1940's he moved back to Prineville, at which time he returned to work for Hudspeth Mill, falling timber and driving logging trucks. He married Marie Binam in 1985 in Reno, Nev.

Mr. Binam was an active member of the Prineville Community Church where he served on the board of Trustees and was also the church's maintenance man. Mr. Binam loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, trapping, mining claims that he had on the S. Fork of the John Day River. Mr. Binam played the fiddle for many years. In the 1950's he played with the "Ozark Trubidors".

Mr. Binam is survived by his wife Marie Binam of Prineville; son Archie and his wife Carolyn Binam of Prineville; daughters Shirley and her husband Wally Stephens of LaGrande, Betty and her husband Ron Gross of La Grande, Doris and her husband Bill Halsey of La Grande, and Diane Thorson of Independence; brother Oliver Binam of Prineville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

It has been suggested those wishing to make a memorial contribution direct it to the Prineville Community Church.

Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
