Ottis G. Bloom Dies at Age of 88
Ottis G. Bloom, 88, of 15 Westminster Street, city, died this morning at 8:20 in Mercy Hospital where he had been a patient for 10 days. He had been in poor health for the past eight years. Mr. Bloom was a retired railroad engineer.
Born at Briar Creek, he had resided in Wilkes-Barre over 60 years. He retired 20 years ago as an engineer after working for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 42 years. He was a charter member of the Dana Street Evangelical United Brethren Church; also a member of its Dr. Kistler Bible Class; Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers; Fidelity Lodge 655, F. & A.M.; Caldwell Consistory and Irem Temple.
Surviving are his wife, the former Minnie Merrifield; stepsons William Ridler, Philadelphia, and Wilson Ridler, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Kivler and Mrs. Arthur Long, Nanticoke, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will probably be held Friday from Luther M. Kniffen Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Rev. Warren Loesch officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Green Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.
