Walter Troy McAlpine, 91, of Springdale, Arkansas died August 28, 2009 at Circle of Life in Springdale.

He was born May 14, 1918 in Naples, Texas, the son of Walter Coleman and Elizabeth Putman McAlpine.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in World War II from 1943-1945. He was a Prisoner of War for nine months until being liberated by Gen. Patton's army. He received numerous awards for his bravery and service.

W.T. was a carpenter by trade, but also worked as an installer for Sears. He helped to build the Central Missionary Baptist Church in Ft. Smith and served as a deacon there for many years. Most recently, he was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Melba (Coble) McAlpine; daughter, Jo Darlene (McAlpine) Parr; his second wife, Helen (Scoggins) McAlpine; step-daughter, Shirley Nelson; three brothers, Rayford McAlpine, Huey McAlpine and Roy McAlpine; and two sisters, Zelma Cobb and Ollie Hill.

Survivors include his niece, Opal Cross of New Boston, TX; two great-nephews, David Bell and wife Linda of New Boston, TX and Wayne Bell and wife Mary of Longview, TX; step-son, Wayne Scoggins and wife Sara of Springdale; step-son-in-law, J.D. Nelson of Springdale, eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of W.T.'s life will be held on Tuesday, September 1 at 6 p.m. at Westfield Chapel in Springdale with Dr. Gene Fulcher and Wayne Scoggins officiating.

Family visitation will immediately follow the service.

Burial will be at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, September 2 at Stillwell Cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas.

Honorary pallbearers are David Bell, J.D. Nelson, Mark Nelson, Mike Nelson, Duane Scoggins, Bob Mount, Larry Uptegraft and Earl Aliff.
