DEATH CLAIMS GEO. F. SCHORR, SON OF BUTTE PIONEER COUPLE
Mrs. A. L. Neubarth and Mrs. J. W. Griswold received the sad news last evening announcing the death yesterday of their brother, George F. Schorr. Mr. Schorr had been ill for a long time, his aliment being stomach trouble. That the end was near had been known for some days, and Mrs. Neubarth had been at his bedside during the early part of the week. George F. Schorr was born October 27, 1856, in San Francisco, and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schorr, prominent early day settlers of the Gridley district. With his parents he came to Oroville when an infant and soon the family settled near Gridley, where he spent his youth. At the age of seventeen, he went to San Francisco, where he learned the printers' trade. Later he attended University of California and graduated from that institution with the class of 1882. In San Francisco, on June 6, 1885 he took to himself a wife in the person of Miss Carrie Brier of Centerville, Alameda County, she being a classmate at the University. Mr. Schorr taught school several years after graduating and later became the publisher of the Northwest Tribune at Spokane, Wash. As a boy and man, he was a most genial person and to know him was to prize him as a friend. He was a man of keen mind, scholarly and possessed of a personality that made the world about him brighter. He leaves a wife and five children— Margaret, Brier, Berkeley, Caroline and Katherine; one brother, Jacob T. Schorr of Chico, and four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ellison and Mrs. Charles C. Forbes of Gridley, and Mrs. A. L. Neubarth and Mrs. J. W. Griswold of Chico. The funeral will take place at Benicia Monday at 9:30 a. m. and the interment will be in the cemetery at Centerville, the old home of Mrs. Schorr.
