Mr. John Ammons, one of the best known and most highly respected residents of Hoodsville, died Friday morning at his home after an illness of typhoid fever. He was 58 years old. He had resided in the vicinity of Hoodsville all of his life, and was one of the most progressive citizens of the county. He followed farming since his boyhood days and accumulated considerable wealth. Mr. Ammons was a man of strong principles and was an influential resident of his community.

The deceased is survived by his wife, who was before her marriage Miss Margaret Tennant. They were married 35 years ago. Several children survive, J.C. Ammons, S.E. and W.W. Ammons of Hoodsville, Mrs. Eugenus Eddy of Fairview; Mrs. J.T. Morris of Hoodsville; Mrs. B.O. Hess of Murray; Mrs. Arlie Tennant of Fairview.

The funeral will be held Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the family residence near Hoodsville and burial will be made in the cemetery near there. Undertaker R.C. Jones in charge.

Mr. Ammons was orphaned and raised by Simeon and Lucretia Stephens Tennant. 1860 Census shows John as living in Monongalia Co. at age 7.
