BOWMAN - Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Jesse "Buddy" Alton Gurganus Jr., 71, a retired instructor at General Electric in Ladson, died Monday at his residence. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Southern Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Bryant Funeral Home of St. George, will be in the Bowman Cemetery.

Mr. Gurganus was born in Jacksonville, N.C., a son of Jesse A. Gurganus and Sallie Smith Gurganus. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a peanut farmer. He was a member of Southern Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lillie DeWitt Gurganus; two sons, Jesse A. Gurganus III of Bowman and David D. Gurganus of Santee; two daughters, Connie Darden of Harleyville and Sallie Pope of Lincolnton, N.C.; a brother, Henry M. Gurganus of Oakland, Calif.; two sisters, Pauline S. Attaway of Wilmington, N.C., and Allie Batson of Watha, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.
