SUTTONS BAY - Elijah. W. Wanageshik, 77, retired lumberjack from Suttons Bay, died at Munson Medical Center.
He was part of the crew that lumbered South Fox Island, He blonged to Indian Mession Methodist Church in Northport and occasionally attended Leland Community United Methodist Chruch.
During World War II, he served with the US Army in central Europe, Ardennes, France and Rhineland Germany, attaining the rank of private first class. He was a member of Little Finger VFW Number 7731 in Lake Leelanau and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa Chippewa Indians.
Born Oct 24,1913 in Northport, we was the son of Levi and Mary Ann (Antoine) Wanageshik. In 1937 he married the former Elizabeth Wesley who died in 1949.
Surviving are two sons, Frank Wanageshik of Alto Michigan and Levi Wanageshik, a brother Francis Wanageshik of Traverse City, A siser, Helen Smith of Chicago, two granddaughters and a great-great-grandson.
