Clifton Ferguson already knew the code when he reported to the Navy CT school. His last ham call sign was W5PFD. Clifton was stationed in Puerto Rica 1953-54 where he met and married Trinidad. Other stations Clifton was stationed was Bremerhaven, FT Meade, Turkey, Guam, Naple, and ended his Navy career in Panama in 1973.
