He was born in Norway, MI, on August 8, 1921, the son of Axel Anderson and Emma (Anderson) Anderson. Wally was the youngest of 12 siblings. He attended school in Norway and attended Cloverland Commercial College for three years.
Wally was drafted into the Army during WWII in 1942. He was a paratrooper in the European Conflict, honorably discharged in November of 1945. He was a lifetime member of the 82nd Airborne Division and D.A.V.
One December 11, 1941, he married the former Marie LaFave. They shared 67 years together.
He was employed for 25 years as a Public Safety Officer and later worked as a painter for Art DeCamp. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida, returning to Escanaba in 2001 to be near family.
He was survived by his wife, Marie Anderson of Escanaba; a son, Bruce (Cindy) Anderson of Crystal Falls; two daughters, Judy (Harold) Schermer of Wells and Carol Anderson of Iron Mountain; daughter-in-law, Rikke Anderson; seven grandchildren, Sue Seymour, Robert Schermer and Holly Flanighan, Travis and Bradley Anderson, Brady and Nicky Anderson and a step granddaughter, Kaitlyn Stollberg; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wallace Anderson, Jr.; six brothers, Richard, Russell, Roy, Elwood, John, and Arthur; five sisters, Mabel Trepanier, Florence Stoneman, Irene Nygaard, Myrtle Wellman, and Doris Bubloni.
