J. Artie Kirkpatrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Kirkpatrick, was born in December, 1874, at Clarkton, Mo. and died at his home in this city, Saturday, April 6th, 1935, of high blood pressure, which caused him to have several strokes, succumbing to the last one Saturday night at 8:15.
When only a small child, in 1875, his parents moved from Clarkton to Lake county, Tennessee, where he resided until 1904, when he moved to Caruthersville. He attended the public schools at Hathaway, near Ridgley, Tenn.
He was married to Louella Perkins in 1902 at Tiptonville, Tenn. and in 1904 they moved to this county as above stated. To this union were born four daughters, all of whom live in this city and are namely, Miss Pascal Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Jack Jones, Miss Agatha Kirkpatrick and Miss Bethel Kirkpatrick.
Deceased joined the Methodist church in 1914 and was a constant follower of its teachings. He was an upright man and having resided both in the rural section and in this city, was well known. He lived on a farm near Caruthersville until 1929, when, with his family, he moved here. He was a former member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Elks Lodge and he held commissions as deputy sheriff under Sheriffs S.E. Juden, J. Ham Smith and D. Ben Holly, at various times, and made a fine record as an officer.
Deceased had been in poor health for nearly a year as a victim of high blood pressure and had not been very active during that time.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city yesterday afternoon before a large crowd. Rev. C.C. Barnhardt, his pastor, conducted the service and interment was at Little Prairie cemetery.
Besides his wife and four daughters, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. J.H. Sample, Memphis, Tenn., an aged step-father, who was too ill to attend the funeral, also a half-brother, Dan Kirkpatrick of Tulsa, Okla.
