Henry Luther Lindsey was born in Dallas, GA on June 30, 1908. He was the son of John Alfred and Susan Elizabeth (Bette) Brown Lindsey. He had one sister Grace Oneida who married James Arthur Smith. On July 3, 1928 at the age of twenty, Henry joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marines until July I, 1946. Henry comes from a long line of ancestors who have served our country in the military. His great-great-great grandfather Jeremiah Matthews served in the Revolutionary War. Both of his great-grandfathers, Capt. John Hopkins Matthews and David Lindsey, served in the Civil War.

Henry's first tour of duty came as a member of the Marine detachment aboard the Battleship USS Florida from 1/28/29 to 2/16/31. After serving in Haiti he was transferred to the Asiatics and participated in the defense of the International Settlement of Shanghai, China during the Sino Japanese hostilities. It was the duty of these men to protect American lives and property in this area. It was important and exacting duty and only the best men were selected for this assignment. Henry also served in Hawaii, the Marshall Islands, Guam in the Marianas, Okinawa, and Ryukyu Islands. Henry's unit was sent to Okinawa & landed there on May 1, 1945. He was listed as a weapons officer and served there during the Battle of Okinawa. He reached the rank of Warrant Officer on 7/13/1944 and was placed on the retired list of Marine Corps officers on 7/1/1946.

He married Dorothy Edna Ney Dec. 22, 1945. They have one daughter Bette Jean Lindsey Motley aka Suzi. This bio was done by his daughter Suzi.
