Edward E. "Gene" Tess, age 75, passed away on April 29, 2007 in University Place, WA, as a result of complications of diabetes. Gene was born November 29, 1931 in Milton, WI to Edward H. and Margaret M. (Fetherston) Tess. He graduated from Milton High School and earned a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from Central Washington University. He served over 26 years in the Army in the Infantry in Korea and patrolled the waterways of Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Much of his service time was spent in Germany with the Military Police. After retiring as an E-8, he served as Corrections Officer for the Pierce County Jail and was a member of the WASPC. Gene retired as a Captain after 19 years of service. His hobbies were fishing, skeet shooting, bowling, golfing and playing poker. He is survived by daughters Liliane and Audrey, five grandchildren, sisters Ruth Field, Dorothy Haynes and Margaret Noss. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. Internment with military honors will be Monday, May 21, 2007, at 9:45 a.m. at Tacoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. A memorial reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franciscan Hospice in University Place.
