Helen was the only child of William Arthur and Fannie Eliza (Virgil) Learmont. They are buried in Union Cemetery, Humboldt Co, Humboldt, Iowa. Her grandparents were Benjamin Henry and Helen Eliza (Kingsley) Virgil and William and Catherine (Cooper) Learmont. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1935, and became a registered nurse. In the 1940's she became a Roman Catholic nun. Her father died in 1945 and when her mother became ill in the 1960's, Helen left the church and cared for her mother until her death.
