Charles Issac Shoemaker is the son of Simon Shoemaker and Elizabeth A. Thompson Shoemaker. He is the fifth of their seven children and the fifth of their six sons.

He is the paternal grandson to Samuel Shoemaker & Nancy A. Thompson Shoemaker.

He is the brother of Thomas Boyd, Francis Marion, George W. Robert Marshall, Joseph Franklin, and Mary Jane.

He was married to Clara Mittman; they later divorced. He then married Lily Annette Cooper Fry on February 25, 1889.

Father to Dorothy May*, Guy Simon, Minnie, Marion Henry, Charles Walter, and Baby Boy Shoemaker who died at birth. And step-father to Lula Grace Fry.

He died in Santa Maria, California and is buried in the Santa Maria Cemetery with his son Marion Henry Shoemaker and his grandson Earl LeRoy Shoemaker.
