CHESAPEAKE, VA - CHRISTINE YODER GERBERICH, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on July 17, 2009 while undergoing rehabilitation at Autumn Care. She is predeceased in her death by her parents, Gertrude M. Yoder and John B. Yoder, a sister, Mary Yoder, a brother, John B. Yoder Jr. and her husband, Dr. Ammon H. Gerberich. Christine was born in Lebanon, PA. She was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College and majored in music. She was an accomplished pianist and could play every instrument in the orchestra. Christine taught school in Pennsylvania for many years and was an aspiring opera singer who was heading for the New York stage until she moved to New York and then Salisbury, MD to help her husband with his veterinary practice. She loved to play golf, tennis, ice skate and play Pinochle. After leaving Salisbury, MD, she resided at Lighthouse Pointe and then Cedar Manor in Chesapeake. All who met her admired her sharp wit, sense of humor and keen mind for a lady of her age. While her body failed her, her love for life continued. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at the ripe age of 91 years. Christine is survived by her daughters, Barbara Lynn Kennedy and husband Kurt of Chesapeake, VA and Ann L. Wentworth of Baltimore, MD; grandsons, David A. Kennedy and Stephen K. Kennedy, both of Chesapeake; granddaughters, Dawn R. Wentworth and Abigail Schmidt both of Baltimore, MD; and several great grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Wm A. "Buddy" Hoggard, II, will officiate. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The viewing will begin on Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
