Harold W. Sorenson
82, Wausau, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born February 10, 1925 in Eau Claire, son of the late George and Emily (Lowery) Sorenson. On June 14, 1958, he married Shirley Vang in Eau Claire. She survives.
Harold was a decorated veteran, serving his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. Following service, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning his master's degree in Education. Harold was a professor at Northcentral Technical College, Wausau from 1961, until his retirement in 1989. He taught written and oral communications, and was a dedicated and respected teacher among his many students.
Among his many interests, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening and spending time with his wife, Shirley and his family. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Elks Lodge #248, Wausau, American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau and Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388, Wausau.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Sorenson and two brothers-in-law, Vermont Sandvig and Robert Stein.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church, Wausau. Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau with full military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
