BRISTOL, Hugh Powell Barger, 88, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 2, 2009, at Asbury at Baysmont in Kingsport. Born in Bristol, TN to the late David & Ethel Barger, he was a graduate of Bristol High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the England Theatre. Upon his return to the United States, Hugh joined the Tennessee Highway Patrol where he retired after 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Davis Barger; and a brother, Howard Barger. Hugh is survived by a godson, Dr. Frank Nickels & wife, Sharon, of Newport Richey, FL; and two nieces, Bristol, TN. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Blountville Cemetery, with Rev. John M. Irwin officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 3/265. Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, is serving the family of Hugh Powell Barger.
