Obituary published in the "Richmond Whig" on 4/14/1840.

"A few weeks since, at Aberdeen, Miss., in the meridian of his life, James A. Francisco, the eldest son of Peter Francisco, late a Sergeant at-Arms to the Virginia Assembly, and a distinguished soldier and patriot of the Revolution.
James was amongst the adventurers from Virginia to the far West, allured by the prospect of improving his fortune, and placing his little family beyond the reach of adversity. He was pre-eminently blessed with a vigorous constitution, and a large dividend of health. But, alas! What can all these rich endowments avail, when we are exposed to the malignant diseases of a hostile climate: He was gone to his long home, and left a destitute, disconsolate, and affectionate wife, and two infant children, to mourn their irredeemable loss. James Francisco was brave, generous, affectionate and enterprising: the writer of this small tribute to his memory and his integrity, can truly affirm, that he was, in the genuine acceptation of the word, an honest man: and indulges the vital hope, that the same providence who caters for the sparrow, and stills the clamors of the young ravens of the wilderness, when they cry unto humane, to furnish the widow'd mourner, and orphan children of James A. Francisco, with both food and raiment."
