Nancy M. Lunderman married Laughland Murphy on April 3, 1828 in Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky by John Spurlin, Justice of the Peace.
Anderson McFail's Ledger...The wording is exact to his writing..."Old Gramma Murphy, the mother of James W. Murphy and Doctor Murphy died at Lou Murphy's, the widow of James W. Murphy, at Phillipsburg, Missouri, on Friday night Jan. 26, 1906."
Laclede County Death Record Books 1906-1910 states, "At the home of her son, James W. Murphy, at Phillipsburg, Missouri at 1am on Saturday, Jan. 26th of infirmities of old age. Mrs. Nancy M. Murphy, aged 95 years, 1 month, 24 days. The funneral from the M.E. Church ater which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot at Millsap Cemetery. The deceased was not only one of the oldest persons in the county, but for more than sixty years had been a resident of Laclede County."

OBIT--Nancy M. Murphy, one of the oldes and most highly respected residents of this state, died following a lingering illness. She was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia on December 3, 1810 to John Lunderman, Jr. and Mary Jackson Murphy. At the time of her death, she was more than 95 years old. At the age of nine years, she removed with her parents to Christian County, Kentucky, where she married Lauckland Murphy on April 3, 1828. Her maiden name being Nancy M. Lunderman. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy removed to Missouri in 1837, and settled on the farm now owned by John A. Shields, near this city, but which was at that time in Pulaski County. This pioneer couple continued to live on the old farm upon which they settled May 11, 1862, when her husband, died, but her family remaining with her, occupied the old homestead until about 1880. At the organization of Laclede County the Murphy home was used as a county seat, and the first terms of the county court were held at their house, and Mr. Murphy was one of the commissioners who located the county seat of Laclede county. Mrs. Murphy was a woman of extraordary endowments, and for a period of more than half-a-century was a strong factor in the settlement and development of her adopted state. She was the mother of nine children, five sons and four daughters, and none survive her, except the two youngest sons, William L. Murphy of this city and Dr. H.C. Murphy of Richland, the former having been twice elected to the office of Sheriff, of this county and the latter having served with credit as a representative in the legislature from Pulaski County. Mrs. Murphy was a devoted member of the Church, she united in Church membership at the age of fourteen years. For more than sixty years an active worker in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In her early life where there was no Church houses, she frequently served the little band of Methodists as their class leader.
