Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating and P.J. Graves III will be the soloist. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. P.J. was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Homer, Neb., the son of Raymond and Catherine (Sherlock) Graves. He graduated from South Sioux City High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a master sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism.
He married Shirley Kuehl on Sept. 27, 1952, in South Sioux City. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union for many years and for a while, he had worked for his brother at Graves Construction. He began a career in real estate in 1984 and worked for Nelson and Associate until he retired in 1998.
He enjoyed his children and grandchildren's sporting events and playing cards. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of South Sioux City; two sons, Pat Graves of South Sioux City and Tim Graves of Crofton, Neb.; three daughters and their husbands, Susie and Pat Livingston of South Sioux City, Debbie and Gary Larson of South Sioux City and Amy and Jeff Buryanek of Westfield, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike; and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be J.J., Ryan and Beau Livingston, Colton, Joey and Jesse Graves and Tyler and Jimmy Buryanek.
