ALICE MAE KUNKEL FARST was the youngest child and only daughter of William and Amanda Jane Freehafer Kunkel.

She was born June 14, 1881 in Brown Township, Knox County, Ohio. She had two brothers, George Emerson "Em" Kunkel, who married Rebecca Jane DeLong and her brother John Elmer Kunkel, who married Irma E. Derrow. Alice also had infant twin brothers, born in 1871, who died at birth and are buried at the Dutch Hill (Old German) Cemetery, near Butler, Ohio.

Alice was married to Norman Arthur Farst, he was the son of Isaiah W. and Maria Elizabeth Swendal Farst on January 31, 1903 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. For many years Norman and Alice lived on a farm east of Butler, Ohio. Their children were Raymond Arthur Farst Sr. of Akron, Ohio, Herbert Isaiah Farst of Akron, Ohio, Mabel Irene Farst Mowers, who lived at Pinhook in Richland County, Olive Rose Farst Adams, who lived in Cleveland, Ohio, Richard Jones Farst, who died at the young age of 3 years and Robert Leroy Farst of Lucas, Richland County, Ohio.

Sometime between 1920 and 1930 Alice and Norman moved into downtown Butler. After the death of Alice's mother, Amanda Jane Freehafer Kunkel Minard in 1935 and husband, Norman A. Farst in 1936, Alice became the owner of a small restaurant in Butler named "Ma's Place" which she operated for about 14 years.

She was a member of the local Evangelical United Brethren Church. For the last five months of her life, Alice lived with her daughter, Mabel Irene Mowers at Pinhook, the cross-roads of Lucas-Perrysville Road and St. Route 603 in Monroe Township, Richland County, Ohio.

Alice, age 68, died on November 4, 1949 from complications of diabetes and heart disease. Her funeral was held at the Butler Snyder Funeral Home with the Rev. E.A. Rothgeb officiating. Alice was buried at the Bunker Hill Cemetery, alongside her husband, Norman A. Farst, east of Butler, Worthington Township, Richland County, Ohio.
