Obituary in the New Milford Times dated 8/27/1931 reads:

"The death of Sarah H. (Woodin) Hatch, 81 years old, widow of the late Virgil B. Hatch of New Preston, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry L. Lyman, August 22. Death followed a very short illness caused by heart trouble. Mrs. Hatch was born January 30, 1850, the daughter of Samuel Henry and Louise (Newton) Woodin of Merryall, and lived most of her early life in Merryall with her uncle, Josiah Beardsley, for many years warden of St. Andrew's Church, Marbledale.

She was married October 25, 1870 to Virgil B. Hatch of New Preston Hill and the couple celebated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Hatch died March 16 of this year.

Mrs. Hatch is survived by one son, Clifford G. Hatch of New Milford, and two daughters, Miss Mildred D. Hatch of Middletown and Mrs. Harry L. Lyman of New Preston.; by two grandchildren, Virgil B. Hatch of Hartford and Miss Edith Hatch of New Milford; by two great grandchildren, Chas. and Elizabeth Hatch of Hartford and a half-sister, Mrs Frederic Gillette of Watertown.

Mrs. Hatch, while in failing health, had been up and around several days before her death and her death came rather as a shock to her many relatives and friends and to the community where she lived and where she was much beloved by all who knew her.

The funeral took place at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from the home of Mrs Harry L. Lyman of New Preston. Funeral arrangements were in care of Peelan and Cornell. The floral tributes were many and very beautiful. The pall bearers were E.P. Lyman, Judge Walter Pickett, Ralph Averill and Harry Burgess."
