He was born Feb. 29, 1940, in Anderson County to the late Lee Roy and Pearl Turner Abner.
Turner was a member of the Blowing Springs Baptist Church. He loved woodworking, camping, helping and building things around the church, and spending time with his family and friends. Turner was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Coal Creek Lodge No. 492 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Hugh Abner; and sister, Mary Ruth Shaw.
Survivors include his special friend, Shirley Wright of Clinton; daughter by heart, Genia and Steve Petty of Clinton; grandchildren by heart, Stephanie and Mike Petty of Clinton; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge for their extended loving care shown to Turner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Hatmaker Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David White and the Rev. Robbie Owens officating.
Friends and family will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at the Blowing Springs Cemetery for the interment.
Hatmaker Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge of arrangments.
