THE DEATH OF JOHN KNOOP, SR.

Pioneer Resident of Green Township Died Monday Morning After Several Weeks Illness

John Knoop, Sr., one of the pioneers of Green Township, died at the home of his daughter Mrs. George Leckey, of Green Township, Monday morning at 5:45 o'clock of general debility after an illness of about four weeks. He had been in poor health for almost 18 months.
He was born in Miami county one mile south of the Shelby and Miami county line Dec. 13, 1844. He lived in Miami and Shelby counties all his life within four miles of his birthplace. He was married to Margaret A. Martin and after his marriage always lived in Shelby County. Mrs. Knoop died thirty years ago.
Mr. Knoop was a farmer retiring from active farming thirty-five years ago. He was also a Veteran of the Civil War, serving two years and 11 months with the 110th O. V. I. He was also a member of Neal Post G. A. R. and was a member of the Odd Fellows order for over fifty years. He is survived by five children; four sons, Samuel, Lee, John and William and one daughter Mrs. Geo. Leckey.
The funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Interment in Graceland cemetery.Enlisted 8-11-1862
