Donald R. Geist, 77, Alburtis, died Sept. 7, 2009, in The Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, Allentown, where he was a patient since Aug. 25.
He was the widower of Mary Ann (Merkel) Geist, who died Oct. 15, 1992.
Born July 9, 1932, in Allentown, he was a son of the late Robert A. and Elsie (Stauffer) Geist.
He attended Macungie Christian Church.
He was an Air Force veteran.
Mr. Geist was a lineman and later a supervisor at Mack Trucks Inc., Macungie, for 27 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Virginville Grange, National Experimental Aircraft Association and also the NRA.
He was an avid hunter.
Mr. Geist, along with his wife, took care of 42 foster children in their home.
Surviving are a daughter, Ann G. (Geist), wife of Alan C. Hersh, Allentown; and sons: Scott L., husband of Gabriela I. (Cristea) Geist, Chiefland, Fla.; Earl A. Wagenhurst, at home; and Anthony K., husband of Lillian F. (Guynn) Geist, Germansville; a sister, Dolores (Geist), wife of Robert Crossley, Vera Cruz; and brothers, Clifford A., husband of Sandra Geist, Emmaus; and Robert K., husband of Naomi Geist, Macungie.
In addition, there are 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown, PA 19530, with Pastor Barry Laube officiating. Burial will be in Dunkel's Church Cemetery, Kutztown, with military honors performed by the Ray A. Master American Legion, Post 217, Topton. Family and friends may call Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
