Elizabeth Julia (Vencel) Button, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009. She was born on July 30, 1924, in Vigo County, Terre Haute, to Michael J. Vencel Sr. and Julia Adams Vencel. She married Jack Richard Button on Oct. 27, 1945, and he preceded her in death, in June 1987. Elizabeth graduated from Prairie Creek High School in 1943. She work for Vigo County School Corporation and retired in 1984. She was a member of United Methodist Temple Church, Parkinson Ladies Association of Deceased Spouses, Senior Friends of Terre Haute Regional Hospital and Red Hat Society. Survivors include her daughter, Jackie Boatman of Brownsburg; son, Richard Button and wife Claudia of Plymouth; grandchildren, Adam Boatman of Indianapolis, Melissa Button of Ohio and Emily Button of Indianapolis; brothers, Joe Vencel and wife Faye of Colorado and Don Vencel and wife Annette of Prairie Creek; sister, Ethel Ann Montague of Centerville; sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband; four brothers, Michael Vencel Jr., John Vencel, Frank Vencel and Steve Vencel; and sister, Helen Lewis. A memorial will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon followed by a short service. A gathering for family and friends will be held at Fowler Park immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494 (www.parkinson.org).
