Civil War Service:

Co. K, 14th Iowa Infantry, Nov. 6, 1861 to Nov. 16, 1864. He enlisted at age
18. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Shiloh April 6, 1862. He was
released to the Union Army on parole within a few months and served "parole
duty" at Benton Barracks, MO for several months before returning to his regiment
in 1864.
