Son of Dempsey and Mary Jane Perkins Strother. His family called him Lee. Killed in a bar brawl.

Leroy Strother Killed by Pete McDaniel.

Leroy Strother, son of Dempsey Strother, was cut to death by Peter McDaniel at Pawnee, Calcasieu parish, last Saturday night. The cutting took place at 10 o'clock p.m. and he died at 3 o'clock Sunday morning. Dr. Monroe of Glenmora was sent for and when he arrived found the case hopeless. He was cut in the lower part of the bowels.

Peter McDaniel after cutting Strother, then jumped on two other men and wounded them with a knife. After the cutting he ran away, but came back to Pawnee Sunday morning and when told what he had done by a friend, said that he did not remember anything about the trouble, as he was drunk. He took to the swamp at once and is now in hiding.

L. Strother was a native of Rapides parish, and lived near Blanche post office. McDaniel lives near Pawnee, and was born and reared on Calcasieu river near Oakdale.

McDaniel and Strother were second cousins. Strother was a nephew of Mr. Polk Wills of Osborn post office, and McDaniel is a nephew of Marion Perkins of Gum post office.

Strother was employed in a saw mill at Pawnee, and is said to have been very industrious and steady.

Gravesite Details

Headstone is badly damaged and is broken into four pieces. A new stone was placed at the base of the broken stone. Cenotaph for his brother John David has been placed on the other side at the base of Lee's headstone.
