A funeral for James Roy Ambrose Sr., age 62, of Hayes, was held at 2 p.m. Friday in Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. He died Sept. 1, 2009.
Mr. Ambrose was born Aug. 7, 1947 on Gwynn's Island to the late James H. and Julia S. Ambrose. He retired from Allied Towing Company after 24 years as the cook on a tugboat.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Neff and Sandy Ambrose; son, James R. Ambrose Jr.; three sisters, Virginia Greene, Paulette Childress and Jo Ann Adams; a brother, Granville Ambrose Sr.
The service was conducted by the Rev. David McKnight. Burial followed in Gwynn's Island Cemetery.

James was born Aug. 7, 1947, on Gwynn's Island to the late James H. and Julia S. Ambrose. He was retired from Allied Towing Company after 24 years as the cook on a tugboat. James was known for being the 'magic man' for working on lawnmowers. He was a great friend to everyone and he will be missed by many.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Neff and Sandy Ambrose; son, James R. Ambrose Jr.; three sisters, Virginia Greene, Paulette Childress and husband, Tommy, Jo Ann Adams and husband, Michael; brother, Granville Ambrose Sr. and wife, Patricia; a special nephew, Randy Greene and wife, Lori; two great-nieces, Shelby and Jordon; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. David McKnight will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in Gwynn's Island Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home.
