CATHERINE (COURTNEY) HANNAWALT/Hanawalt was born in Virginia, October 6, 1826, and with her parents came to Iowa in the early forties. She was united in marriage to Samuel Hannawalt, Sept. 1st, 1850. To this union 6 children were born, 3 sons and 3 daughters, 2 of whom proceeded her in death [Elizabeth and Mary Margaret]. The Hannawalts came to Jewell county in 1880 where they have since resided. Since the death of her husband in 1882, Grandma Hannawalt has made her home with her son, Frank. She departed from this life August 19, 1912, at the age of 85 yrs 10 months and 14 days. When but a girl she united with The Church Of God and has since lived a consistent Christian life. She was a very devoted reader of the Bible. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. O. Gessel at McCabe chapel, burial in the Couch cemetery.
