Carolyn Janice Artman, 66, of Hamlin, Kan., died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at her home.

She was born near Salem, Neb., Dec. 31, 1942, one of seven children of Tommy Andrew and Freida May Estes Miller. She grew up in the Salem-Verdon-Honey Creek, Neb. where she attended school. She moved to Robinson, Kan. where she graduated from Robinson High School in 1962. Janice lived in various towns across northeast Kansas returning to Brown County in the early 1970's. She worked for Flair Fold Manufacturing for 16 years before it closed.

Janice attended Hamlin Baptist Church and served on the City Council at Hamlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Matthew Blaine Artman, Nov. 24, 1993; and a granddaughter Abby Michol Brassfield, May 25, 1988.

Survivors include three children: Brian Artman of Kansas City, Mo., Kimberly Backer of Robinson, Michele (Kenneth) Belden of Hamlin; a brother Thomas LeRoy (Lois) Miller of Verdon, Neb.; five sisters: Elsie (Kenneth) Guy of Robinson, Margaret Miller of Morrill, Sharon Triska of Verdon, Charlene (Buster) Wisdom of Robinson, Mary Ann (Larry) Rogers of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 23 nieces and nephews.

Funerals services are planned for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Morrill Baptist Church, with Jeff Perry officiating. Interment will be at Hiawatha Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church.
