Former Burlington area resident, Alice Alberta Holman of Walla Walla, Wash., died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007. She was 90.
Mrs. Holman worked for many years at Great Western Savings and Loan in Los Angeles. In 1984, she moved to Redmond, Wash., and in 2003, moved to Walla Walla.
The daughter of Walter S. and Carrie Hughes Merritt, she was born Nov. 1, 1916, on the family farm west of Burlington. She spent her childhood on the farm and graduated from Burlington High School. She then attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
She married Ardeane Holman in the 1940s and they moved to California. They were divorced.
Mrs. Holman was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Burlington when she was young.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Holman of Green Acres, Wash.; one brother, Maurice Merritt of Burlington; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Tom Merritt and Walter Merritt; and two sisters, Frances Finnerty and Maxine Merritt, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Burlington. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Hartford. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, after which the family will meet friends.
