Hendrik B. Van Dyke, father of former mayor Isaac Van Dyke of Zeeland, died Saturday in that city at the age of 78 years and nine months. Mr. Van Dyke was a formerly well known farmer east of Holland, but for many years he had been a resident of Zeeland.
He was born in Griffe, the Netherlands, on June 3, 1843, and came to America in 1847. On August 14, 1862 he became a soldier of the Civil War, enlisting in Co. I, 25th Michigan Infantry. He was only 19 years old at the time, and he served until the end of the wa, being mustered out on June 24, 1865.
The deceased is survived by nine children, 24 grand children, and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Reformed church in Zeeland, Rev. Benj. Hoffman, pastor of the Second Reformed church officating.
