1st Sgt Constante Castillo De La Cruz, (Ret) OCEANSIDE --Retired Marine 1st Sgt Constante "Papa Del" Castillo De La Cruz, 82, passed away on September 3, 2009 at home, surrounded by family. He was born in Manila, Philippines to Marcelo De La Cruz and Maxima Castillo, both deceased. Constante served for 27 years in the Pacific Theater, Korean War, and twice in Vietnam. He worked for SDG & E for 20 years and was a Red Cross Volunteer at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas and the local casinos, bowling, and volleyball. He and his wife enjoyed cruising and travelling. He was a member of Isang Tinig Choir and the Fil-Am Association of North County. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Romana "Mama Mona" De La Cruz; five children, Lorna De La Cruz, Alma Gossman, Larry De La Cruz, John De La Cruz, wife Debbie, Leilani Sanchez, husband Ken; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Stacie, Bradley and Blake De La Cruz, Jessica and Stephanie Gossman, Ciara and Kelsey Sanchez. He is also survived by four living brothers and three living sisters. He has one deceased sister and two deceased brothers. He has several in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends. A viewing will be held between 4 - 8 p.m., Monday, September 14, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, Calif. 92054. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel, 4050 Mission Ave., Oceanside, followed by burial at Eternal Hills.
