BARRE Marian Breen, 82, a former resident of Brandon, died peacefully on the morning of September 21, 2006, at the home of her son in Brandon.

Mrs. Breen was born in Jericho on June 26, 1924, and grew up on the family dairy farm there. Her friends and family remember her creative, fun-loving approach to life. She attended the University of Vermont and received her Bachelor's Degree in English in 1945. She taught English and maintained her excitement about the written word throughout her life. When not reading, she wrote poetry and designed Crosswords that were published by Dell. She also taught Physical Education and in her spare time won her share of golf trophies at the Neshobe Golf Club in Brandon. On her birthday in 1948, she married Richard Breen and they enjoyed 58 years together. Marian kept pace with their three children, Mike, Holly and Peter. The family had resided in Morrisville, Bristol and Brandon before Marian and Dick retired to Barre in 1978. As her seven grandchildren entered the picture, she made sure she attended the sports events, created new holiday traditions with them and taught her grandchildren the rules to her favorite card games. Marian's abiding sense of humor was enjoyed by all. Friends, neighbors and family regularly received, much appreciated, gifts of garden produce, excellent baked goods, oil paintings, dried floral wreaths and painted horseshoes. Her sister Dot will miss the entertaining letters postmarked Barre, Vermont.

Surviving is her husband, Richard Breen of Barre, son, Mike and his wife Linda, their sons, Dustin, Ryan and Christopher. Her son, Peter and his wife Ann, their daughters, Meghan and Michaela. Her daughter, Holly Clook predeceased her on October 9, 2001. Also surviving is Holly's husband, Dennis Clook and their daughter, Gail and son, Justin, as well as a sister, Dorothy Main. Sisters-in-law, Sandy Dustin, Pauline Hutchins, Phyllis Breen and Beverly Luneau, and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. She was also predeceased by a sister, Mildred Anderson and a brother, Ernest Dustin.

A private funeral service will be held at a later date in the chapel at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph. Burial will follow there in the Veterans Cemetery.

There will be no public calling hours.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made in her memory to the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
