Helen was a delightful human being and a wonderful correspondent who kept in touch with many distant family members over the years.

Her mother died when Helen was 13, then her father by her 22nd birthday. As the oldest child she had a hand is raising all six of her younger brothers and sisters.

"ALKERTON, MARY HELEN Peacefully at the St. Lawrence Lodge, Brockville, on Sunday September 6th, 2009 at the age of 92.

"First child of John Alkerton and Bella Lawrence, granddaughter of Elias Lawrence Jr and Mary Carmichael, great-granddaughter of Major Andrew Carmichael from Ireland and Isabella Johnstone from Scotland.

"Her siblings include Dora Kerr of Brockville, Ruth Perkins of Prescott, George Alkerton of Brockville, Ralph Alkerton of Prescott and Earl Alkerton (Dorothy) of Prescott. Predeceased by a brother Charles Alkerton. Also survived by a sister-in-law Beverley Alkerton and by numerous nieces and nephews.

"Funeral services were Friday September 11th, 2009, in the Prescott Chapel at 1 pm. Interment at St. Andrew's-Knox Presbyterian Cemetery, Spencerville."
