Her family was driven out of Nauvoo with the Mormons. Her mother and father were married in New York. They built a two room house of logs with Puncheon floors.

I can say that I am a pioneer of 1847. I am the daughter of Dolphus Babcock. I was nine years old when we crossed the plains in 1847. I would be pleased to receive a trip to go to Salt Lake on pioneer day to the pioneer celebration.
I live just one block and a half from the Oregon short line Depot. Yours very respectfully from Mrs. Permelia Young.
P.S. I am not very strong and will need a companion to go with me. Could I get a ticket for a companion for my help? Permelia Young.
