Obituary

Sarah Fanny TURNER was born May 16, 1848 in Lumpkin Co., Georgia, and died Nov. 27, 1907 at her late home in Salt Creek Twp. She was married in her native state to Mr. O. P. TURNER, Sept. 29, 1866, and to this union were born 7 children, 1 of whom died at the age of 4 years, and was the first person that was buried in Saltville cemetery. The remaining members of the family are the husband, who is at the present time in an almost helpless condition, and the others are: Mrs. A. T. MOFFITT, who lives in Salem, Oregon; Mrs. D. M. SIMMONS, at present living in Salt Creek Twp.; John, who is attending the law school in Western University at Allegheny, PA; Henry, who resides in Graham Co., Kansas; L. D., who lives in Portland, Oregon; and Bryan, who is at home.

In 1872 the family came to its present home, 12 miles South of Beloit, and has resided there all these years. In early life she united with the Baptist church in Lincoln County, and remained true to her faith, although she was tempted and tried in many ways. If that sweet charity that always lifts the weak to a better life and hope had been exercised toward her in her condition of body and mind, there would have been perhaps no fears or doubts along her pathway. In the end, however, her trust in God was firm, and her reliance in what the bible taught was good, although she could not fully understand all that is written there.

Funeral services to her memory were held on the 28th inst., at the Saltville chapel, and the burial took place in the cemetery there, and the body rests near the graves of her parents and that of her son and other kindred who sleep there. The services were conducted by Rev. B.F. McMILLAN, who was acquainted with the deceased for the past 35 years. The choir sang several appropriate and beautiful selections during the services.

The deceased was a sister of J.J. ABERCROMBIE, of Beloit.
