Ward was a veteran of the US Army serving during WW II. He was a graduate of MSU and always loved MSU athletics and academics. Ward retired in 1981 following 35 years of employment with Auto-Owners Insurance. Hew was a long time member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Lansing and a life member of Lansing Lodge #33 F. & A.M. He enjoyed square dancing and was an avid golfer.
Ward was preceeded in death by his parents, wife Helen Plank-Gillett in 1983, and sister Mary Alice Gillett-Dibble. He is survived by his niece, Ann Marie Halsey and her husband Jody; great nephews, Anthony Bateman and Cody Halsey; niece, Diane Gillett-Dibble of San Francisco; and nephews Greg Dibble of Carmichael and George Dibble III of Sacramento, Ca.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Este-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with reader Sara Lincoln of First Church of Christ Scientist officating. Internment will follow in Mt Hope Cemetery.
