Mr. Kennedy first joined the United States Marine Corps., in June of 1931 and took basic training at San Diego, California. He saw sea duty on the USS Maryland and the USS Holland (AS-3). He was honorable discharged in June of 1935 and was awarded the USMC Good Conduct medal. In May of 1944 he joined the United States Navy. He was stationed at US Navy Base Hospital #3 and US Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. He saw sea duty on the USS LSM-181 and was eventually honorable discharged in August of 1945. For his World War II service he was awarded the Navy Good Conduct medal, the WWII Victory medal, the American Theater Campaign medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal.
